Research Presentation
HELLO ALL AND WELCOME TO MY EXCITING PRESENTATION OF MY RESEARCH ON POLAR BEARS!! Please feel free to explore my page’s links, photos, and videos– all on Polar bears!!
******************************************************************************
For starters, the originating reason that made me decide to research Polar bears, was the inequality of justice for these endangered animals. Polar bears are endangered animals that have been waiting around for years (while they’re becoming scarce) to be categorized as “threatened” animals on the Endangered Species List– which would then, present them with stronger protection against humans and their pollution that’s causing major global effects (ruining the Polar bears environment). Recently, after finally being accepted on the Endangered Species List, they were also included in the “threatened”animals category. But, in a article I found written by Robert Kunzig*, he presented new information about the Polar bear’s recent success of being accepted on the “threatened” animals list, might soon be denied by the government. As you can see, Polar bears are enduring a roller coaster of a ride, just trying to get protection from the government. Polar bears can’t fend for themselves, nor ask for help. So, this is why I need to research the thesis as to why ‘Polar bears should be kept in the category as “threatened” animals on the Endangered Species List’.
Expectations that I had before starting my research were pretty neutral. I figured I would find supporters and opposing people on an equal level for this topic. But, instead, I’ve found that more people are becoming opposed to the Polar bear’s situation due to the environment they live on, and the precious resource, to humans, that’s beneath the surface– oil.
Surprising information that I’ve found while researching so far is that people in the government are opposing people as well– for example, republican John McCain’s running mate, Sarah Palin. I figured, since the government established, and supports, the Endangered Species List, why are they falling short of their word promised to this Act. Letting Polar bears go endangered is setting them up for extinction, and it would be all for a resource that’s just an additional pollutant to the world.
I’ve found that most people unaware about this subject, don’t know about the in-depth truth of the trials and tribulations that Polar bears are going through with the government. Everyone seems more aware of Global Warming, but the harmful effects that are endangering wildlife are being left in the dark. Strategies for preventing Global Warming, and tips to saving the environment need to be broadcasted with a stronger urgency before it’s too late. Most people feel that the government will take care of all problems in the world, but there are many programs and foundations that can be supported (through donations and activism) from the public– which would go to help the survival of Polar bears.
Databases have been key providers of the best information for me, so far, while researching. I’ve used databases in the library like ProQuest, Academic Search Premier, CQ Researcher, etc. However, the most efficient database that I’ve actually used sources from in early assignments for my research paper, have been from ProQuest. I’ve also looked on Google Scholar as well, they have a lot of helpful articles that pop-up. BUT the downside is that a lot of the results you have to buy to get the whole article.
Furthermore, research that I will be doing from this point on, will probably entail: extensive research in wildlife and animal foundations (for news, supporters, and protection efforts), CNN and other major news companies for government information, also, again, more thorough/ narrowed searches in Lewis D. Cannell’s library databases.

I HOPE EVERYONE ENJOYED MY RESEARCH PRESENTATIONS, AND I WELCOME AND LOOK FORWARD TO EVERYONE’S COMMENTS, QUESTIONS, AND SUGGESTIONS!! Thank you for visiting my Blog…

You have chosen an interesting topic. I would have thought that the polar bears number one threat would have been hunters. It was a surprise to find out that environmental issues are the polar bears worst enemy now. whether its hunting or global warming its always humans that are the cause of all the problems in the world. I’m glad that polar bears are currently in the “threatened” category animals on the Endangered Species List, and it would be a shame if the government tool them off of it.
Posted 3 years, 4 months agoYour blog is great. Everything is very interesting, from the pictures and videos to the information being presented in your posts. You have a great topic to work with. I’m looking forward to see how your paper comes out. Good luck.
Reading your research it sounds that you have a strong interest in polar bears and found lots of good information about them. My research on “fossil fuels” I’ve learned that CO2 emissions causing global warming is the main cause of animal extictions. The animal not being able to adapt fast enough due to the climate change. Some interesting info I found was a large amount of ice has been melting at a fast rate due to the increase of green house gases in the air. Researching some more might help you find interesting facts caused by global warming. I was using the databases to find most of my information and found that the information was leaning to one side. I found looking other places for info made my paper more analytical. I’ve read lots of information about putting polar bears on the endangered species list. Are there people that don’t want them on the list? I’ve also found a lot of information on my topic with the presidential debates going on. Putting something that running candidates think about putting animals on the endangered species list or even what there going to do about global warming and saving their homes. I’m not sure but think that the melting of the ice is a huge part or polar bears on the endangered species list.
Posted 3 years, 4 months agoThat’s surprising that they just now got on the endangered list, it’s something I thought they would always have been on. My narrow way of thinking I guess. I think this is an awesome topic to do on a paper, I think everyone should become aware to what is happened to these bears, I don’t think it would be hard to find information on these bears. Maybe you could research what we could do to save these bears, considering putting them on the endangered list is not doing much. Would keeping them in the zoos’ help them survive? By breeding them? If they did become extent would that pose a threat to the human race? What do humans or anything benefit from Polar Bears? I’m not saying it’s not going to be a big deal if they go extent I think it would be awful, but it would be interesting to learn about. I don’t know much about polar bears except that they can swim up to 60 miles, and their skin is black. What is being done to help reverse this problem, and is it even helping? Or is this problem even reversible?
Posted 3 years, 4 months agoI think that this paper will defiantly be an interesting one. Something that brings forth awareness about the species we often forget about and overlook. Focusing just on polar bears is great way to focus the spot light on the issue of endangered species. It would also be very helpful if you provided some information specifically about the environment that is being altered and the direct effect it is having on polar bears as well as other species. Maybe, to give more depth to your research you can take a look at different countries response to this problem, for example the way polar bears live in Russian compared to Alaska. Or even to dig deeper, what would be the damage if nothing gets done and what can be done. I am sure these are some of the questions that you are already considering and I hope you find good, solid answers. I wish you luck on your further research and I look forward to reading your paper. You defiantly have chosen a great topic that can make your paper not only good, but also very effective.
Posted 3 years, 4 months agoP.S. Cool videos, very insightful and informative.
I learned a lot in your paper about the affects we have when we leave an animal on or off the endangered species list. I think you have your perspectives down pat, great organization. All together, you have an awesome start. To tell you the truth I have a hard time finding any questions or different outlooks towards your paper. I would love to have your help with my paper on organization (I am jealous on how fluid your paper reads)
Posted 3 years, 4 months agoI am excited to see the final paper and really have no advice accept maybe try some of the teachers advice on some personal reflection from people you talk to and use it as just some extra interesting thoughts. Great job Sarah!
